Sefirot Through a Black Hole

Sold

This painting places the sefirot in a black hole. On a simple level, the sefirot are understood as aspects of the divine personality. They are also understood as lenses through which the divine appears in our finite understanding. Mystics map these out and associate them with different parts of our body, worlds, colors, and names of G-d. Many mystics look for “breaks” and“blockages” in the links between the sefirot in order to help with spiritual and physical healing. The symbolism of the painting is that in the darkest of places in our physical world, we still have the ability to transform it, return to G-d, and reveal G-d’s Light.

The Chariot

This painting is rich with allusion and meaning. The Chariot alludes to both Elijah’s chariot of fire and ascension meditation, also known as maaseh merkavah or Actions of the Chariot. It is Inspired by the ascension of Elijah the prophet in a fiery chariot. The chariot is depicted as fiery keruvim (cherubs), inspired by Ezekiel’s vision. The painting imagines these fiery Keruvim as the chariot that ushers in the bright light of G-d’s glory and redemption.

Shema Israel

The sounds of the Shema Prayer are a cue to go inward. This painting is a visual interpretation of my shema prayer. It’s the constant through the chaos, a guide through the depths of life, and a place to gain strength and connection.

Splitting of the Sea

This painting imagines the splitting of the sea during our liberation from slavery in Egypt. We are told to remember the redemption every day, not just during Passover. This reminds us that G-d can always intervene in our lives. On a personal level, It is a very deep and liberating
reminder of the power of our prayers.

Sounds of the Shofar

This is a visual representation of the sounds played on the shofar during Rosh HaShana. In the first layer of the painting, I used a straw to blow the paint as if I were blowing these notes on the shofar. This is a visual take on the sounds we hear every year that open the heavens, and call deep into our soul to awake our ancient memory.

Living Waters

Sold

This painting imagines the Torah as mayim chayim (living waters), and the scrolls of the Torah as the Tree of Knowledge and the Tree of life.

Shattering of the Vessels

Inspired by the mystical idea that upon creation, the physical vessel containing the holy primordial light of G-d shattered into countless scattered sparks and pieces, as numerous as the stars in the sky. Our job is to transform the darkness by revealing the hidden sparks.

Fire From the Heavens

This painting imagines the lion shaped fire that G-d sends to consume the carbon (sacrifices) brought to the Beis Hamikdash (Holy Temple).
